Great New Books 2013 Launch

Great New

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice. – T.S. Eliot

I have exciting news this New Year’s Day: the Great New Books team is launching our new redesigned website tomorrow, on January 2, 2013! Great New Books

Great New Books began in July as a form of a book club website, and has evolved into a more meaningful and long-term sustainable form as a book recommendations site. Our motto? Sharing our favorite books one week at a time.

I’d love it if you’d venture on over to our new website at and stay tuned for the big things to come. Each week, one of the five GNB team members will feature one of our favorite books we’ve recently read, in a short and fun post. Every few weeks, we’ll have an author we admire to guest post about one of their favorite recent books they’ve loved. And, to keep things really great, we’ll often have book giveaways, as well.

You can find us at our website,, and on Twitter at @GreatNewBooks, and on Facebook. And, to get all of our weekly recommendations delivered to your inbox, you can sign up to receive a weekly email. We hope you do!

I am so privileged to get to work with a stellar team of treasured friends on GNB — I’d love to introduce you to them:

She lives in the Kansas City area with her husband and three kids, as well as her goofy Wheaten Terrier. She has been published in local parenting magazines and blogs for a local website called JOCOmoms. She is currently writing a historical fiction novel that she hopes to complete before the end of time. Her favorite books are Outlander, Ride The Wind, Little Women, The Fault in Our Stars, and Life of Pi. You can find her at her website: and on Twitter @Hallie_Sawyer.

Nina Badzin:

Nina Badzin is a writer who lives in Minneapolis with her husband and four children. Her stories have appeared in various literary magazines, and her essays have appeared on numerous blogs, including Huffington Post’s books, parenting, religion, and technology pages. Find her on Twitter @NinaBadzin, or at, where she blogs weekly. Some favorite books “of all time” include East of Eden, The Age of Innocence, Love in the Time of Cholera, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Recent favorites include Gone Girl, The Age of Miracles, and Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. Nina loves to read. Period. She keeps track of her weekly reads and let’s you know what she thought of them here.

Jessica Vealitzek:

Jessica Vealitzek is a mother and writer near Chicago. She recently finished her first novel, The Rooms Are Filled, and is at work on her second. When she’s not blogging at True STORIES, writing for Rebellious Magazine, or composing ditties for her children, she enjoys writing anything else. Some of her favorite books are To Kill A Mockingbird, anything by Steinbeck, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, and The Killer Angels. Recent favorites include If Jack’s in Love, Train Dreams, and Up from the Blue.

Lindsey Mead:
