“White swan of cities slumbering in thy nest . . . White phantom city, whose untrodden streets Are rivers, and whose pavements are the shifting Shadows of the palaces and strips of sky.” –Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, “Venice”

I am captivated by Venice. It’s not just the water and the light, the sunshine and the bridges, the boats and the people, the Basilicas and the stones. It is everything. Venice has a soul.
We visited Venice over the past several days. Though we were unsure about the season (late February), we knew Venice is the definition of hot and crowded in the summer tourist season. February turned out to be perfect. Not only was it not crowded or hot, we also had a taste of Carnival, or Carnevale di Venezia.
Just one visit is not enough … I simply loved Venezia! More on Venice in upcoming posts …
Have you been to Venice? What is your favorite part?
