The Presence of God
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.
After the Christmas unwrapping, a few gifts usually need to be returned or exchanged. Long lines at every store make each return a chore. One year, I received a leopard-print sweater from a well-meaning loved one. The thought and effort invested in the gift touched me, but I knew that I would never wear it—it just wasn’t me.
Gifts can be very hard to select. We want our loved ones to like what we have picked out. God probably feels the same way. He gives us so many gifts—our next heartbeat, the frosty design on the window, a laugh shared with a friend—and he wants us to enjoy each one. He especially hopes that we will never reject the gift of his presence.
God’s presence empowers us when we feel weak, and enables us to soar when we feel weighed down. God comforts our broken hearts and rescues us when we feel trapped. We can experience God’s presence by simply opening our hearts to him. He is always there.
God’s presence is his gift to us.
