Snow Plow Mountains

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17:20)

In the Midwest, we often have large January snows. Some years, we receive only dustings, but other winters we are up to our knees in drifts. One memorable January brought huge quantities of snow. It seemed that every spare moment for weeks was spent in clearing the driveway so that we could use it. I clearly remember the work of clearing the drive . . . and the sinking feeling as the snow plow returned. As you know, one pass from the plow pushes a mountain of snow onto the end of the drive—which meant that just as I thought I had finished, I had to begin again.

Attitudes and behaviors that we work hard to remove from our lives resurface in the blink of an eye. Just as we have overcome anger, for example, the snow plow is back with another load. The Bible tells us not to despair. Though the mountain seems impossible to move, we can do it with God’s strength.Nothing is impossible for God.
