Stacking a Snowman

Don’t store up treasures here on earth. . . . Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. (Matthew 6:19-21)

Winter fun comes in all forms at our house: sledding, snow forts, snow angels, snow cream, and the favorite—snowmen. We love to gather up old hats and mittens, sunglasses and scarves, to decorate our carefully stacked men. A tall, long-lasting snowman always has a big foundation ball, and progressively smaller balls to the top.

So it must be in our lives—the strongest part must be the foundation. A strong relationship with Jesus must come first if we are to have a meaningful, eternal life. Jesus said that our lives are in balance when God is our treasure, but if we build our lives on money, house, clothes, or power, it will all wash away. Putting God first brings the deep satisfaction and contentment of a lasting investment.

As we seek to know God’s desires in all that we do, our lives will grow and flourish as we rest on the strong foundation of God’s love.

For a fulfilled life, store your treasures in heaven.
