The Gift of Today

Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone—as though we had never been here. (Psalm 103:15-16)

This time of year, the grass, fields, and trees are still a drab brown. The days are beginning to warm up, but most of nature is still sleeping. The crocuses are gradually poking their heads up to face the rising sun. In purples, whites, yellows, and striped blues, they smile and bless the world with their beauty. But their beauty is soon gone—we must enjoy it today!

If we live to be 100, our lives will still feel short. There will never be enough days for us to do and be all that we hope for. Busyness hustles us along, and we slip into routines. Days come and go with little to show for them.

God gives us each the incredible gift of today’s opportunities! Today has every ingredient needed for making a difference to others. We don’t know what lies just around the bend and there are no guarantees for tomorrow, but today has infinite value. Enjoy the gift of today!

Live the gift of today.
