January 15: Snowdrops

Delicate Lily-flowered Tulip

January 15

Season’s First Snowdrop

I will praise the Lordat all times. I will constantly speak his praises. (Psalm 34:1)

Moving at break-neck speed often causes us to miss out on life’s beauty. In the midst of my scurry one January day, uncommon beauty caught my eye. In the melting snow by the front walk was the first snowdrop of the season. I can still see it in my mind’s eye, with its delicate white petals unfolding from green stems just above the snow-covered ground.

That day I learned that even in the middle of challenges and hardships, busyness, and unexpected news, our lives can be like the snowdrop, blooming beautifully in the cold and snow.

None of us knows what tomorrow will bring. God has called us to praise and thank him for the precious gift of life today. He invites us to slow down and soak in the miracles that bloom around us. Be fully present to the beauty of a delicate flower, the padding pajama-feet of freshly bathed kids, and laughter shared with loved ones.

In the coming year, praise God each day for the miracles and the simple joys of life.Pause to appreciate the miracles of life.
