The View from Our Side

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” . . . The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. (2 Kings 6:16-17)

In modern life, we rely on many things to work when we need them. We trust that the brakes on our cars will function when we need to stop. We don’t check them every day to see if they are still there—we just trust our lives to their effectiveness whenever we drive.

Although God says that he will always be there for us, it is sometimes hard to feel his presence. Elisha was surrounded by two attacking armies, and his servant was overwhelmed by the number of enemy soldiers (2 Kings 6). When God opened his eyes, he saw that Lord’s army far outnumbered their enemies. God already had everything under control.

God’s help in our daily lives is more reliable than our car’s brakes. There is nothing to fear. God has everything in his hands, and all we have to do is trust.

Call on God, knowing that he is present.
