Hardships or Joys
The Lord is my strength and my shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. (Psalm 28:7)
A dear friend of mine always inspires me to smile more. The room lifts and brightens as she enters. Laura has every reason not to smile—she lost her husband at a young age, raised her four boys by herself, and this year, when she is a grandma, she is battling cancer. As she endures her fourth round of chemotherapy, she does not complain, but radiates the smile of a woman held dear by her heavenly Father. Laura says that she smiles because she thinks about God’s blessings rather than her circumstances.
It is hard to smile in the face of hardships, but life in our world will always include struggle. As we go through each challenge, we have a choice: to focus on God’s goodness and trust him with the hard stuff, or to focus on our problems and miss out on life’s joys. When our lives are focused on God, we cannot keep from smiling.
Focus on life’s blessings.
