Covering the Roses
Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. (Psalm 5:11)
I fell in love with roses the second we walked into our first backyard. One rose bush was red and the other pink. Since this was in New Orleans, I did not have to do anything to keep those roses alive; they simply bloomed. When we moved to the Midwest, I started a garden in our backyard by planting a few roses. I didn’t know to cover them for the winter, so they died that season. Roses in our Midwest climate need the snow for protection against the extreme winter cold, and it helps if we cover them, also. Now, years later, I have lost a few, but I enjoy many thriving roses in our gardens.
Like the snow that covers the winter roses, God covers our lives with his protection. He knows our needs before we do. God’s love and protection come quietly, like the first snowflake falling. His sovereign hand may be hard to perceive, but unlike the world’s security systems, God will never fail us. His presence fills us with joy.
God shelters our lives.
